We had such a great time last weekend that Jax and I decided to go tent camping at Lake Wenatchee State park near Leavenworth, Washington for the 4th of July weekend. The weather, as we left, sure didn't hold out any promises for heat and light but we hoped things would be different over on the dry side of the state...
After a few rain storms and some nasty, cold weather on the pass we arrived at Lake Wenatchee State Park. The weather was still cold - high fifties, I'd say... Interior Roads - Lower Bumping Lake Campground

This was also our first visit to this park. You can find out more and make reservations here. We had reserved site number 177 and it turned out to be, in our opinion, a poor site selection if you were looking forward to any modicum of privacy. Were we to return we would select one of the many pull-out sites. Those seemed to be larger with more space between them (for the most part). We set up our camp while trying hard to ignore the mosquitos swarming around us. I think, given the cold and the bugs, that Jax was just a tiny bit away from suggesting we should maybe pack up and move on...
However, it didn't take us too long to get the site set up and the camp hosts delivered us some wood so we got a fire going and had a bite to eat... Set up at Bumping Lake Campground

The next day we walked down to Lake Wenatchee. The wind is howling down the canyon raising white caps on the lake. Back in camp we hear a tree fall nearby. No yelling or sirens so we assume no one was hurt, fortunately...
We took a ride into Leavenworth for lunch and some "shopping". Leavenworth struggled, years ago, but then came up with the idea of turning itself into a "Barvarian" Village and the tourists just pour into town now. Here's a nicely restored pickup... Back of campsite 56

I thought I might get one of these alligator heads to keep the neighboring children out of our campsite. Or, maybe I could mount it on the front of the Wing?

I think it kind of resembled something produced by a volcano in Hawaii...
But we cut it open and salvaged a couple of pieces from the inside and it was simply delicious. I'll definitely try this one again... View towards upper Bumping Lake

After 25 minutes on the fire we had another hit. Oh, my!! Pizza in camp. It was very tasty!
Since, after the beer bread bust, we seemed to be on a successful streak we though we'd try a pineapple-cherry crisp in the oven. First the ppineapple around the bottom of the pan then covered with a couple cans of cherries... Pearl in windshield

Then a yellow cake mix on top dotted with some margarine pieces. Then, onto the fire. Shortly after this I realized that I was supposed to add some water to the cake mix to make it into a batter. Oh, well...
Even without following the recipe exactly, it turned out delicious... Pearl in windshield

It was cold and cloudy again going back over Steven's Pass but soon enough we were home where we helped ourselves to long, steaming, hot showers. Another fun trip camping on the bike... Pearl in windshield
